May 3, 2023

Mummy MOT ® service provided by Flex Physio.

The post-natal period can be a challenging time for many new mothers.

The body undergoes significant changes during pregnancy, labor, and delivery, and it takes time for the body to recover and heal after giving birth. If you’re a new mother, you’ll likely have experienced physical and emotional challenges postpartum, which have impacted your day-to-day quality of life.

This is where the Mummy MOT ® comes in. This specialised service, offered by Flex Physio, can help new mothers to recover and regain their pre-pregnancy strength and function. The assessment is carried out by one of our fully-trained and licensed physiotherapists, Hannah Wilkins, who specialises in women’s health.

What is a Mummy MOT® ?

The Mummy MOT ® is a comprehensive post-natal assessment that helps identify any physical issues that may need to be addressed following childbirth. The Mummy MOT ® is designed to assess a range of post-natal issues, including:

  • C-section recovery
  • Post-natal constipation
  • Diastasis recti
  • Faecal incontinence
  • Overactive bladder syndrome
  • Pelvic girdle pain and recovery
  • Post-natal back pain
  • Prolapse
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Many other women’s health issues besides, particularly those which commonly arise post-natally.

Post-natal physiotherapy can also help women recover from a range of issues that may be impacting their day-to-day life. This can include pelvic floor muscle weakness, abdominal separation, and back pain. Through a combination of exercises and manual therapy, women can regain strength and function, and reduce pain and discomfort.

“It is never too late to seek help and support for post-natal issues.”

What’s involved in a Mummy MOT ®?

The initial assessment appointment is one hour long, and subsequent appointments are 30 minutes. During the Mummy MOT ® assessment, Hannah Wilkins will carry out a range of tests and screenings to assess the health of the pelvic floor muscles, abdominal muscles, and postural alignment. This information will then be used to develop an individualized rehabilitation program, tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

In addition to physiotherapy, Hannah provides education and advice on the best way to carry out day-to-day activities, such as lifting and pushing, to avoid further injury or discomfort. This can be particularly helpful for new mothers who may be struggling with the demands of caring for a newborn.

What sort of patient is the Mummy MOT ® suitable for?

The Mummy MOT ® is suitable for women who have given birth, whether it be recently or years in the past. It is never too late to seek help and support for post-natal issues. Hannah is available for appointments on Mondays and Tuesdays at the Park Club.

A Mummy MOT ® can be a valuable resource for new mothers who are struggling with post-natal issues. Hannah Wilkins has long specialised in the treatment of women’s health, and is fully-certified to conduct Mummy MOT ®s. A Mummy MOT ® can help women recover from a range of post-natal issues, including pelvic floor muscle weakness, abdominal separation, and back pain.
